City of License: Norman
Power: 1 kw

Notes:  Fox Broadcasting (named for local owner John Fox, unrelated to the more well known 21st Century Fox), used to own Sports Talker WWLS-AM 640. After selling WWLS in the late 90s, then KNOR waited out a non-compete with Caribou (later Citadel) in sports talk radio. KREF station flipped to sports Jan. 8, 2002. However, it wasn’t without controversy. KREF was set to change to a few days earlier, but Citadel lawyers reminded them that their non-compete had not run out. This led to a poorly executed looped recording, teasing the new sports format.
In 2009, Fox sold to Metro Radio Group for $350,000.
Over time, “The Ref” branding has been replaced with the SportsTalk brand (ironically former sister station WWLS used this moniker when former owner Fox owned it). They added an FM translator at 98.5, the transitioned to a translator at 99.3. Neither FM signals covers anything but Norman.
The station has off and on had affiliates across the state carrying portions of their programming. They also simulcast some programming with crosstown KGHM (1340 The Game).
